It is the largest of all institutions affiliated to the ministry of Scientific Research and employs about of all scientists working in these institution.
NRC Is the largest multidisciplinary R&D centre in Egypt devoted to basic and applied research within the major fields of interest.
NRC Possesses an impressive scientific & technological infrastructure and man power resources of 4735 research staff.
NRC Consists of 14 divisions and 108 departments covering the major areas of industry, health, environment, agriculture, basic sciences and engineering.
NRC Is headed by a president with ministerial status, assisted by two vice presidents, one for research and the other for technical affairs. The minister of state for Scientific Research is the higher president of NRC.
Prof. Dr. HelmyTawfik El Zanfaly is a research member of National Research
Centre, Environment and Climate Changes Institute (previously known as
Water Research Department) since 1986. He is author for more than 70 peer
reviewed research paper published in national and international journals,
indexed on Google and Scopus and received many citations. He contributed as
an author for chapters in books published by John Wiley & Sons and WIT
Press. His area of interest is mainly environmental sciences and technology
including sustainable development, upgrading of water and wastewater
treatment technologies & reuse, evaluation the microbial safety of agricultural
products, isolation and identification of micro-organisms, hydraulic research,
water pollution, risk assessment, disinfectants and disinfection, antibiotic
resistance bacteria, climatic changes effect on water resources, alternative
sources of energy, circular economy , bioremediation, and environmental
problems related to the rural area. As pioneer investigator, he touched the
problem of antibiotic resistant bacteria as a serious public health problem on
the farm environment base (In Germany), in Nile River (Cairo), in activated
carbon reactor (in Egypt, and USEPA), in drinking water (in Egypt), in
dialysis water (in Germany). Prof. El Zanfaly has a deep experience in the
development of onsite simple wastewater treatment (septic tanks) in the
Egyptian rural areas by using a group of local selected active microorganisms.
He is trainer for laboratory teams of the Egyptian Holding Company for Water
and Wastewater on the advanced methods for microbial examination. Prof. El
Zanfaly presented his research work and invited as key-note speaker for many
international conferences. He wrote many reports for international
organizations concerned the environmental situation in Egypt and contributed
in many national and International research projects covering many issues
related to water and wastewater management.
